Welcome new Maize Central Elementary School leaders for 2026-27!
We're excited to welcome our new leaders at Maize Central Elementary School for the 2026-27 school year! Join us in congratulating these outstanding individuals as they step into their new roles.
Megan Hemmerling, who has been the Vermillion Elementary School Assistant Principal since August 2023, will be the new Maize Central Elementary School Principal effective Aug. 1. She will fill the position following current Principal David Jennings’ retirement. She was honored as the 2025 Kansas Assistant Principal of the Year for Area 3. Previously, she was a Maize South Middle School Assistant Principal for five years. She was also a teacher at Maize Middle School and in Wichita, where she received the Golden Apple award.
Amanda Poynter, who has been a Maize Central Elementary School 4th-grade teacher since August 2016, will be the school’s new Assistant Principal effective July 1. She has served in multiple leadership roles with the school. She also has presented at district-wide professional development on integrating SchoolAI with Wit & Wisdom to enhance classroom engagement. She will fill the position following current Maize Central Elementary School Assistant Principal Brenda Pfeifer’s retirement.
